Amares is a village located in the North of Portugal and a part of Braga district.

Currently, it has a population of approximately 1800 inhabitants, over an area of 1,37Km².

The municipality of Amares has administrative borders with the municipalities of Braga, in the South, Vila Verde in the Northwest, Terras de Bouro, in the North, and the municipalities of Póvoa de Lanhoso and Vieira do Minho in the Southeast.

The landscape, typical from the region of Minho, is marked by the presence of Rio Cávado and Homem and by the hilly topography with elevated areas of land such as Serra do Gerês and Alto de Santa Isabel in Santa Marta Bouro.
